ABOUT MINDFUL LEATHERWORKS
Advocating Slow Craft In The Horse World
Mindful Leatherworks specializes in hand crafting made-to-measure custom leatherwork, using only the finest materials. Our leathers come from small, family-run tanneries in France, Turkey, Mexico, Italy, England and the United States, and are all carefully selected for their rich color, fine grain, strong tensile strength and eco-friendly tanning. Each tannery that our leather comes from has excellent wastewater practices, and uses carbon-offsetting for much of their business.
Every item created at Mindful Leatherworks is carefully designed, crafted, and fitted to be of heirloom quality and to meet even your most specific of needs.
ABOUT EMILY JENKINS
Wearing Many Hats
In addition to leather-worker and saddle fitter, Emily Jenkins is a full-time dressage trainer and instructor from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She began working with leather after training as a saddle fitter and bench flocker in both England and the US. While visiting with bench saddlers in England, Emily became fascinated by the idea of crafting unique, quality pieces of equestrian tack that are not only made-to-measure, but made from sustainably-sourced materials.
Much of her leatherwork skill has been self-taught, or comes from hours of observing other leatherworkers. Her degree in textile design and background in fibers has allowed her to explore the world of leatherwork with a unique approach, understanding the way a “living” material such as leather has a history and memory to it. It is this act of bringing the function and beauty out of a leather hide that she truly relishes, when working.
